I’ve been pondering about putting this on tumblr, then I decided that i NEED feedback, so here I am.
I am preparing a Ghirahim cosplay for a very important competition - PLUS he’s my favourite now and everytime I think about it, it thrills me. I am still waiting for the fabrics to arrive in order to sew my cape - and I need to find the strenght to go out in my cold and snowy garden to prepare resin gems - but meanwhile, I decided to move on and get myself a good first try at makeup!
The wig still hasn’t arrived (oh please, please let it be soon) so all I have is my blue headband. XD …classy.
I ordered a bodypaint, which arrived yesterday, because I believe that making Ghirahim with a good light grey skintone is better than my pale white skin. I won’t be totally painted, though, I picked a light gray catsuit to cover my body under the white suit (‘cause I’m a girl, you know, and having my chest totally exposed by one of the diamond-shaped holes is not really the best, although I’m seriously flat).
I’m trying to get a final effect which resembles a mid-way between the artwork and the game rendering.
Unfortunately, the bodypaint was definitely too dark, so I had to mix it with some white paint I previously used for Ulquiorra. Then I added a layer of lotion, a layer of skintone powder and a layer of silver eyeshade.
My skin is very porous and ruined (*sobs*) so the color won’t come out as smooth as I woudl like to, but I tried my best to make it uniform. It’s lighter than in the picture - my bathroom light could make white look black - and fits the gap between the catsuit and me.
I made my eyebrow disappear with some theatrical glue and scar putty - in addition to that, I have veeeery thin eyebrows, so this makes it easier. I don’t think he actually has eyebrows, it’s only that his forehead is a little prominent and gives the illusion of a line above the eye.
The purple below the eye is just some eyeshadow I had among my makeup, I definitely need to find something thicker and darker, so it won’t disappear and make a better shaped area on the grey color.
I also tried to paint the little diamond with some black aquacolor (it’s such a pain in the ass painting something geometric on your own cheek.)!
Don’t mind the pointy ear - which is just glued to my ear and the gap has been hidden with scar putty and liquid foundation - I still need to color it, I will just do it before the parade so the color will match the one of my skin. I only wanted to see the final effect!
As a first attempt, I’m pretty satisfied. I still need my black lenses and the white wig, which will probably make greater contrast and make the makeup look better. I’ll go shopping for some better basic color (maybe a little lighter so I won’t have to fight to get to the final color) and a better eyeshade… and I need to buy back my Makeup fixative, since someone stole it from my makeup-bag at an event this summer. (I hope you die, that was worth almost 60 bucks.)
I still need to work at it a lot: swords, cape, suit.. but I’m pretty confident about it <3
